I played tennis for the first time in many years, ouch…
Aside from realizing my decline in hand eye coordination and endurance I learned a valuable lesson since we played doubles. It’s all about teamwork and communication. Better teams beat better talent consistently.
I talk about roles a lot in business and my experience has me absolutely convinced that having the right team on the bus is more important than anything because the right team knows how to adapt and change as needed to win and stay ahead.
If you haven’t read “The Five Dysfunctions of a Team – Patrick Lencioni”, get it and read it. If you have, read it again.
I have another day on the tennis court this weekend and I hope my skills are a little sharper otherwise I will continue to rely on the basics.
Enjoy and keep working on your “game”.
Brick
great post brick – remember getting advice from renny few yrs back when we were working on a buy-side deal – told me to show the prospect that “we have a deep bench” very important especially for smaller companies bidding against larger competitors
