There are a few basics you better get right or don’t bother.

Don’t

1. Ask if this is a good time to speak

2. Say you are calling to check in

3. Ask what I will do if you do something for me

4. Call me without something that will reinforce why I should use your service

5. Ask me to commit to anything until I am ready

6. Talk like you are following a script

7. Ask me if I have my calendar open!

Do

1. Be conversational and relevant

2. Understand my business before you call

3. Give me continued reasons to want to engage with you

4. Offer references with no strings attached

5. Make it easy for me to do business with you

Advice

I am sorry but I happen to think most salespeople are just not very good and can’t think on their feet.

Sales can be a fun and rewarding profession or it can be brutal.  Learn the trade or suffer the consequences.
