I was a decent, not great, basketball player with big dreams!  I didn’t need much external motivation because I loved the game and was driven for other reasons so I played 6 hours a day to perfect my game.  I dribbled a basketball everywhere…got thrown out of Sunday School a few times…

I remember my 9th grade coach, Joe Brennan, and his impact on my passion.  He was a great player himself, but more importantly knew how to motivate and get the most out of his players.  I remember him telling me in front of the team that I had the best jump shot.  Well, as a 15-year-old kid you can’t imagine what that did for my confidence and desire to work even harder.  Just a couple of words of praise, that’s all it took.

Well, long story short….I only grew to 5’9″ so I didn’t reach the lofty heights I wanted to but I had a ton of fun trying and learned some life long lessons.  I have been in a leadership role for years and I try to lead by example with passion and hard work and if someone does a great job I make sure everyone hears it!

It’s not hard to give some praise but for some reason it seems easier for people to give criticism.  Why?

We got a deal this morning so hope the same come true for you.
