I attended a trade show last week as a vendor and wanted to share some key observations that made me wonder:

The majority of vendors:

1. Sat quietly behind their booths talking to themselves
2. Let the participants walk by with not attempt to engage
3. When there was a chance to engage in planned activities like breakfasts, most did not
4. Many I spoke with seemed disengaged – “just another event”

Seems strange to me as I ate breakfast with others to engage in conversation, tactfully stopped people walking by, anything to engage and strike up a conversation that could lead to a business opportunity.

Now, I get that many of the people “manning” the booths are not “salespeople” or paid on “commission”…but I ask you…

Shouldn’t we all be trying our best to create opportunities to improve the business?
