In a prior business we had every employee tape this to their computer as a reminder to use good old-fashioned conversation in lieu of email. I was reminded of this today when I sent an email to someone I wanted to establish a relationship with and it came back to me via my other contact at the organization who then admonished me for doing so…
I always say, if you send an email, you should expect that it will be forwarded to someone else and today validated that….which I had a hunch may happen. In any event…
Here are some clear benefits of using the telephone versus email:
1. There is no permanent record that can be forwarded
2. There is a lot more room for error in a call than email that won’t come back to bite you
3. Telephone interaction is the next best thing to a face to face meeting
4. You have another dimension when you speak and a better chance to build rapport and advance a relationship
5. You will have a longer communication session with a call and invariably other things will come up that will help your cause
Technology is wonderful and we should all leverage it but some things are still better the low tech way and “talk don’t email” is a reminder for all of us in business and life to pick up the phone and call you want to build a relationship.
Have a great weekend.

100% agree plus how many times have we wasted hours on crafting the perfect email only to find
1- we don’t have the. Correct email address
2- the prospect doesn’t read it
3- the prospect reads it and misinterprets creating more work for us
4- the prospect responds and we miss it in the 100’s of emails we get daily
It’s easy to push out emails but there is no substitute for a live call or meeting better yet…
