Have you ever been surprised when you receive a gift from your friend, spouse, parent….and they got you something you really liked and you were so blown away because you never expected it?

When you are in a client’s office, on the phone, communicating by email, IM, etc…do you ask questions, listen for information that isn’t about your product?   Have you ever been in someone’s office and noticed what kind of pictures or books they have?  Have you discovered anything about your client’s hobbies, family, where they went to school during a conversation?

Believe it or not, this is really high value intelligence if you know what to do with it.  Here’s an idea – try it.  Send a book that is very specifically in line with your client’s interests.   It doesn’t have to cost much – $10-25 max…and send it with a personal note. 

Try it and tell me what happens.  Be bold, stand out, take chances…
